Delivering Results as Your Trustee

Financial Turnaround

When I was first elected Trustee in 2014 the Board was reporting a serious financial deficit of approximately $4. 7 million. There were many contributing factors such as: declining enrollment, unfunded empty pupil spaces and a surprise shortfall to meet the Board’s pay equity commitment.

However, we have turned it around. Over the past 3 years the Board has taken steps to reduce expenditures and to retain and attract students.

Today the Board is forecasting a surplus and our student population is growing again, and we expect to be hiring more staff.

In September 2017 we opened a brand-new St. John’s French Immersion at 1260 Coronation Dr. This is Just a few minutes east of Hyde Park Rd. and Gainsborough Rd.

This new $12 million school can accommodate up to 504 students in JK – grade 8. It is part of our plan to service the ever growing demand for French instruction within our Schoolboard.

Regina Mundi Catholic College is also being replaced. The Ministry of Education has approved $19.3 million for a new school. A full conceptual study can be found on the board’s website.

Of course, it doesn’t end there. We are submitting plans for new schools and renovations for the coming years and hopefully we will be communicating more good news shortly.
